Gulf of Mexico Alliance

The four Gulf of Mexico Sea Grant College Programs are active partners supporting the Gulf of Mexico Alliance (http://gulfofmexicoalliance.org/welcome.html). The Gulf of Mexico Alliance was initiated by the governors of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida to form a regional collaboration to address coastal issues. The Gulf of Mexico Alliance has six Priority Issue Teams that address topical issues in  

• Water Quality;
• Habitat Conservation and Restoration;
• Ecosystem Integration and Assessment;
• Nutrients & Nutrient Impacts;
• Coastal Community Resilience; and
• Environmental Education;

The Gulf of Mexico Sea Grant College Programs have representatives who serve on the majority of Priority Issue Teams and lead several of the Gulf of Mexico Alliance action items. In addition, from 2008-2011 Sea Grant College Programs have or will support over $20 million worth of research that is related to Gulf of Mexico Alliance priorities.
