The Gulf of Mexico Sea Grant Programs
The Region comprises Sea Grant Programs in the five states bordering The Gulf of Mexico. Founded on the Land Grant concept, these programs are university-based institutions utilizing research, outreach and education to foster understanding, wise use and stewardship of coastal and marine resources. The people of the Gulf Network serve a region of diverse coastal ecosystems — from the swampy marshes of Florida and Louisiana to the subtropical forests of Mississippi and Alabama, and the barrier islands of Texas. The Gulf Network also is part of the 32-program strong National Sea Grant Program, which is dedicated to meeting the changing environmental and economic needs of the coastal, ocean and Great Lakes regions.
